Description:
Color El Cazador booklet and original certificate included, signed by salvager C.J. “Whitey” Keevan. This coin was salvaged from the Spanish brigantine of war, the El Cazador “The Hunter” which sank without a trace in January of 1784 while on route from Vera Cruz Mexico to the port of New Orleans. Her loss with a great treasure contributed to Spain's eventual conveyance of Louisiana to France's Napoleon in 1800. The rest is history, as three years later in 1803, Napoleon sold the Louisiana territory to the United States, instantly doubling the size of the United States. The shipwreck site was accidentally discovered on August 2, 1993 by a fishing vessel working the area and this treasure coin was salvaged in 2002. The obverse features King Charles III with his coat of arms on the reverse.
